How To Help Your Child With Reading
At Bathwick St. Mary we believe learning to read is one of the most important things your child will learn at our school. So much else depends on it, so we put as much energy as we possibly can into making sure that every single child learns to read as quickly as possible. We use the ‘Read Write Inc’ approach which has been shown to be one of the most effective approaches to teaching children to read. All parents and carers in Year R, 1 and 2 were invited to a reading information session in September. For those who could not attend, a recording of the event can be found here, together with the Powerpoint slides and two Parent Information booklets:
- Parent Booklet 1
- Parent Booklet 2

Our 2019 Inspection Report
Our school was inspected under the latest SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) in February 2019.
The highest grading of ‘Excellent’ was awarded to our school, which ‘reveals extraordinary, innovative practice perhaps not seen before. It sets incredibly high expectations for Church schools.’ Amongst other things the report highlighted our ‘inspirational culture of very high aspirations which has enabled pupils to flourish’, and our ‘innovative curriculum which excites pupils in their learning’.
Full Wraparound Care service at Bathwick!
Our school is open on every school day throughout the year from 7.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Parents can book their child into Breakfast Club and into After School Club. This service provides additional activities for our children and allows much greater flexibility to the normal drop-off and pick-up times. We’ve recreated a family environment – the ‘Club family’ where children can enjoy a relaxed choice of activities at both breakfast and after school care. Existing Parents can book here: ‘Wraparound Care’
